Epoxy flooring has been in existence for the past half a decade and it is still popular for various reasons including its durability, its aesthetic appeal, and resistance to wear and tear. Even though we all know that the end products are going to fall within our expectations, not many know that there are actually many different forms of epoxy available in the market currently.

One of them will be self-smoothing high gloss epoxy. This is a special kind of epoxy whereby the surface is topped by a layer ranging from 2 millimeters to 6 millimeters thick, evolving a delicate outlook yet not losing it tough. Therefore, it is rather well received in car or airplane manufacturing firms and other heavy industries.

Do not be fooled by the term self-smoothing self-levelling. Both of them mean that an additional layer is found on top of the surface as the final furnish so as to prevent liquid or powder spillages. It does not literally mean that the floor is able to regenerate or reverse the process of being damaged.

Next, the trowel applied epoxy flooring. This type of flooring is commonly found in engineering or food manufacturing firms in which a 3-part mortar system made up of liquid resin, hardener, and silica sand are used and often ranging from 4 millimeters to 6 millimeters thick. Such epoxy flooring also permits an enormous variation of mixing ratio from 5:1, which is richly filled with resin to the economically viable 14:1.

As the name suggests, decorative trowel epoxy flooring incorporates colours and furnish that give the plain floor a little bit more tinges of personalisation and creativity. Such epoxy flooring used to be popular in food processing factories because of its food-safe qualities but its fame is currently covered by the existence of other types of more modern epoxy flooring like polyurethane which is cheaper and easier to apply.

As pure epoxy is expensive, there are not many domestic or commercial owners who are willing to invest on sole epoxy flooring. As such the way epoxy is being dispersed also has a great variation. In water dispersed epoxy flooring, epoxy is mixed water before application, while solvent dispersed epoxy flooring will allow epoxy to be mixed with other solutions before applying. There is also the solvent free epoxy and all of them can be adjusted freely in accordance to the amount of epoxy one idolised.

Regardless of which face is one’s ideal, the many options to epoxy flooring means that one has to make a conscious effort in choosing what is best for them. Hence, never hesitate to consult an expert when it comes to the technicalities. Remember, the right type of epoxy flooring is going to last a long way.
