Epoxy flooring is one of the hardiest types of floorings available today. It is made of durable resin and other materials that make it ideal for commercial and industrial use as well as in places in the house which may be high traffic areas. Recent innovations and ideas for epoxy flooring have made it possible to use in many, if not all areas of the house. It is applied on a clean and level concrete base which needs to be grinded and cleaned thoroughly for the mixture to adhere to it properly. Any debris or material not removed properly can affect the integrity of the whole flooring. Many home owners can actually do the application by themselves (with care). There are many different kinds of do-it-yourself kits that come complete with instructions, supplies and tools for the process. One thing to bear in mind when applying it is the big difference in the thickness of the application; less than 2 mm thickness makes it just an epoxy coating not an epoxy flooring. The thickness of the epoxy needs to be 2mm or more in order for it to be durable and strong. Experts can make decorative applications of the epoxy according to the preferences of the home owner.

Designs Ideas

One of the ideas that suppliers have for epoxy flooring is to give it some color. When it initially came out, it was in very basic colors that were more suitable for warehouses and industrial sites. Now, epoxy flooring comes in a variety of colors, some in designer colors that will complement the different colors of the area where it is to be applied. It is not just the colors that the suppliers have learned to tweak but also the finish of the epoxy flooring can be matte, glossy and satin.

Aside from the finishing and the colors, epoxy flooring can also be made with flakes or aggregates. The application of flakes is trickier than that of aggregates because these need to be visible in order for the design to be seen and appreciated. The use of aggregates is also for non-slip properties, while flakes may not be used for non-slip flooring. Both pebbles and sand can be very useful for outside areas that may get wet easily from a swimming pool or a cabana. Flakes usually looks better indoors; such as in dining rooms and living rooms but can be applied anywhere that the home owner or building owner prefers.
